This tour takes you to the savannah grasslands of Akagera National Park for game viewings. You will then trek chimpanzees and other primates, Canopy walk adventure and Tea Experiences in Nyungwe Forest National Park. Proceed to the land of the gentle gorillas. Have gorillas and golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park on these 11 days primate safari, a signature of Rwanda. Experience authentic Rwandan culture and community, canopy walk adventure, tea experiences and boat cruise. You will be using your private Jeep Land-cruiser safari vehicle.

Day 1 : Arrival at the Kigali International airport + Relax.

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met with a warm welcome by our company representative. Exchange some money in local currency then drive to the hotel for a check in and an overnight stay. Your professional guide driver will be at the airport ahead of time waiting for you. Transfer to your pre booked Kigali hotel. Check in and relax. Enjoy your hotel amenities. Later, dinner and rest.

Day 2 : Road Transfer to Akagera National Park

Today you will have an early breakfast and proceed to Akagera National Park. Your driver guide will ensure that by 11h00 you are at the North gate and hand you over to the Magashi Tented Camp driver guide. You will then drive 45mins to Magashi Tented Camp. Magashi Tented Camp is situated in the productive and phenomenally diverse north-eastern corner of Akagera National Park, overlooking scenic Lake Rwanyakazinga.

Lodge scheduled activities include, morning drives, boat cruises, fishing on a catch and release basis, and evening game drives.

Akagera comprises of some of the most scenic savannah in East Africa – open plains, woodlands, lakes, swamps, and grassy low mountains – and is home to one of Africa’s highest hippo densities, large crocodiles, as well as the rare sitatunga and almost 500 species of birds. Akagera also boasts a healthy population of lions, which were introduced by African Parks in 2015 after a 20-year absence; black rhinos were reintroduced in 2017.

Day 3 : Akagera National Park – Camp Schedule.

Today you will pick up where you left off and proceed with the Camp’s scheduled activities. The activities will all be extra interactive, looking for tracks and signs in the bush, trying to recognize bird sounds and identifying animals big and small.

Day 4 : Akagera National Park – Camp Schedule.

Wake up like yesterday, proceed with the Camp’s scheduled activities.

Day 5 : Road Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After enjoying an early breakfast at the camp, you will check out and drive to the north gate with a stop at Kigali city for Lunch. Drive to Volcanoes National Park in Kinigi. Best known as a sanctuary for the region’s rare mountain gorillas. Visitors flock here to experience a face-to-face encounter with these magnificent creatures. While the gorillas are without a doubt the main drawcard, visitors can also look forward to exploring a network of scenic hiking trails, visiting the tomb of the world-famous Dian Fossey and the Karisoke Research Center, and enjoying a beautiful day hike to the crater lake on Mount Bisoke. You will spend the day at leisure here preparing for the Gorilla trekking ahead.

Day 6 : Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trek + Relaxation.

Early breakfast precedes the day, before heading to the park headquarters for the gorilla trek briefing at 07h00. You will then transfer to the starting point of your guided walk, ready to begin this amazing adventure.

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is often described as “life changing” and with good reason. Hikes in the mountains can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours+ depending on the family allocated to your group and their location. The journey back can take just as long, but you are often carried along by the euphoria you feel after seeing the gorillas,

The largest Gorilla group ever studied is in Rwanda and was led by Cantsbee. He was the oldest known mountain gorilla in the world. A Silverback leads a gorilla family and the family comprises of other several younger males, juveniles, females an infant. In addition to providing protection to group members, Silverbacks maintain order and decide all activities within their troop. They schedule feeding trips, resting time, and travel. They also father the majority of the young in the group.

For gorilla trekking, you will be in rain forest, so it will more than likely rain. Warm clothing is required as well as walking/hiking boots, a hat and lightweight poncho/raincoat. Garden gloves, to avoid stinging nettles and gaiters are recommended.

Day 7 : Undertake Golden Monkey trek+ Gorilla Guardian Village.

After breakfast you will proceed to the park headquarters to meet your guides for Golden Monkeys trekking, enjoy them play plus doing their daily activities, then after completing your experiences. Return to your resort to relax, have lunch. Later go for an afternoon Cultural experience at the Gorilla Guardians former Iby’iwacu cultural village, learn about Rwanda’s history and their ways of life. Feel free to dance along with them their traditional dance. Return to the lodge. Refresh at the lodge and have your full relaxation the rest of the day sas you enjoy property amenities. Evening at leisure till dinner time.

Day 8 : Drive to Nyungwe National Park

After an early breakfast at the hotel, start your drive to Nyungwe. Situated in south-western Rwanda, the Nyungwe Forest National Park is known for its exceptional biodiversity and its wide range of endemic species. The park is composed of lush tracts of rainforest set high up on fertile mountain slopes. It is one of Africa’s most ancient forests and the home of Rwanda’s sole remaining chimpanzee population, as well as 85 additional mammal species, 43 reptile species, nearly 300 bird species and over 1000 plant species.  Arrive and have lunch. You will spend this day at leisure enjoying the property. Dinner and rest.

Day 9 : Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk in Nyungwe National Park.

The day begins bright and early, driving to the park headquarters  with a delicious packed breakfast. After an insightful chimpanzee trek briefing, you’ll be escorted to the Evergreen Forest when the adventure begins. Alongside the famous chimps, you are likely to spot a wide variety of bird life.

Their playfulness and human–like characteristics make this journey so rewarding. You may even be welcomed by chimp morning calls deep in the forest. Upon encountering the chimps, you can stay in their presence for one hour as you enjoy their acrobatics, feeding, and day-to-day behaviors. You’ll make your return to the at around 11h00, and lunch will be served.

 

This afternoon, we take you once again to the park headquarters for the canopy walk briefing . The canopy walkway consists of three bridges and three towers, with a total length of 200m. The walkway is embedded in a guided tour along the breathtaking Trail. On this journey, your expert Park Guide will not only reveal the forest canopy, but also explain why it is an integral part of the tropical rainforest ecosystem. You will learn what the major characteristics of a rainforest and its canopy are, and the importance Nyungwe National Park has for Rwanda as a whole.

Day 10 : Nyungwe Forest National Park Colobus Monkey trekking and full afternoon relaxation.

On this day you will enjoy an early breakfast at your lodge before embarking on a thrilling hike in search of Colobus Monkeys communities. During your hike you may also spot migratory birdlife including the Ross’ turaco, grey-cheeked hornbill, red-breasted sparrow hawk and regal sunbird, after these experiences, return to the lodge for lunch and the rest of the day at leisure, have a full relaxation as you enjoy lodge amenities or take part in lodge activities.

Day 11 : Tea plantation experiences + Transfer back to Kigali + Departure

Today morning after breakfast, proceed with the tea plantation experience with more engagements with the local people and awesome photography. Later after these experiences, return to the lodge, you will settle any extras, then drive back to Kigali in order to make it in time for your flight back home. Visit to the local craft shops / city malls to buy more souvenirs and gifts. Depending on your flight details, transfer to the Kigali international Airport for a drop off for your outbound flight back home. See you on your next visit.
