Volcanoes National Park, located in the northwest of the country, is a stopover point for all Rwanda gorilla trekking expeditions. The park is only two hours from Kigali International Airport, making it the world’s most accessible gorilla national park. Aside from gorillas, Volcanoes National Park is home to golden monkeys, a variety of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects, among other things.
Volcanoes National Park, which encompasses 160 square kilometers in northern Rwanda, is part of the greater Virunga volcano conservation region, which also includes Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.
