HIGHLIGHTS OFLAKE KIVU – RUBAVU (GISENYI) & KARONGI

Rubavu

Formerly Gisenyi, is a big town on the northern shore of Lake Kivu, about an hour's drive from Volcanoes National Park, and the ideal place to unwind after gorilla trekking. Rubavu's waterfront is studded with decaying ancient mansions, hotels, and trendy bars on the lakeside, great for sundowner cocktails, and was formerly a notable colonial beach resort.

Karongi

Halfway around the lake, Karongi is a popular beach resort with pine and eucalyptus-covered hillsides serving as a backdrop to the dazzling lake. The sound of local fishermen singing drifts across the sea at dawn and twilight as they paddle in tandem. Being one of Rwanda's most popular tourist attractions on your vocation, Lake Kivu provides a variety of sites to explore and activities to do that everyone will like. There's more to do in Lake Kivu no matter your age, tastes, or interests: walk or cycle around the wonderful scenery, experience local lifestyle, honeymoon, canoeing, kayaking, beach, and more.
